Sanders scores three in losing effort

The boys’ lacrosse team played its first game of the season at home against Cocoa Beach High School, losing 19-9 Tuesday night.

Junior Zane Sanders was West Shore’s top shooter, scoring three goals. Eighth-grader Rylan R., eighth-grader Zach J. and junior Chris Johnson scored two goals each.

“As a starting attackman, putting points on the board early in the game is important,” Zach said. “I’m glad Rylan and I were able to step up, especially since we’re both middle-schoolers.”

Looking forward, Sanders said he hopes to improve both as an individual and as a team.

“We really need to improve on everything, because we’re such a young team with young players who are still working on their fundamentals,” he said.

Zach agreed.

“I’ve been practicing my shooting a lot to prepare,” he said. “And I’ve been working on not hitting crossbar like I did in the last game.”

The boys next play at Viera High School on Friday at 7 p.m.
