Purrfections prepare for upcoming season

During the off-season, the Purrfections dance team continues to practice so that they will be prepared for the upcoming high school season and the Universal Dance Association Camp that is held in the summer.

“This gives us a competitive edge,” eighth-grader Alexis W. said. “It is an opportunity to practice our technique, which we don’t get to practice during basketball season since we are working on perfecting our routines.’’

The varsity team will brush up on their skills over summer during their daily practices which will be held between June 17 and the 27. They will also learn their competition jazz routine to perform at camp.

“This is my first year on varsity, which means that I will have to learn two competition routines, rather than just the one that junior varsity has to master,” sophomore Ashley Norris said. “I am glad that we learn a dance over summer because this will reduce some of the stress I will be under after the 2014-15 school year begins.”

Current freshman Katelyn Kent is pleased to have transitioned onto the varsity team for her sophomore year.

“Being on varsity is really exciting for me because that means my coach recognized that my skills have improved since last year,” Kent said. “I am also looking forward to becoming closer with the upperclassman that are on the team. They serve as role models to me and I aspire to be more like them.”
