Orchestra concert scheduled for May 21

The orchestra perform on May 21 for their Spring Concert. The performance will begin at 6:30pm at the Satellite High School’s auditorium. West Shore has four orchestras with 138 students performing, making it one of the largest orchestra programs in the county.

Orchestra director Maureen Fallon said that the song selections for the concert are different from what the orchestra generally uses.

“The orchestra will be performing lots of movie music, from films like Wizard of Oz, Harry Potter, Frozen, Hunger Games, Incredibles, Lion King,” Fallon said. “The movie music is fun – it’s a bit of a departure from the classical music we usually rehearse.”

Junior Hannah Penny said she’s looking forward to playing Disney music at the concert.

“I’m excited because one song we’ll be performing is a medley of songs from the Frozen movie,” Penny said.

Fallon said the students started practicing earlier to avoid conflicts with testing schedules.

“The orchestra has been preparing since March before spring break since we lose so many full rehearsal classes with all of the testing,” Fallon said.
