Spirit Week 2019

The school’s annual Spirit Week kicks off Monday with festivities including various dress-up days and the juniors-versus-seniors Powderpuff game football game Friday. The themes for the week are “Murica”  Monday, “Tacky Tourist” Tuesday, “College Shirt” Wednesday, “School Spirit” Thursday and “Class Color” Friday.

“Personally I really love spirit week,” junior Layla Auter said. “It’s so much fun getting to dress up and everyone gets really excited so it’s a fun atmosphere.”

Auter said she looks forward to Spirit Week every year.

“I like that each day has a different theme and I always try to dress up as much as I can,” she said. “Personally I kind of wish there were more original themes this year, but it’ll still be fun.”

Junior Kira Anzalone also said the themes for the week could have been more creative.

“This year’s themes are OK. I did like Twin Day [last year] but I do understand that the themes this year are more geared towards getting everyone to dress up, so hopefully more students will participate,” Anzalone said.

The highlight of Spirit Week for many students is the Powderpuff game.

“No question, Powderpuff [is the best part of the week],” Anzalone said. “I’m playing in the football game and I’m really excited to see what the seniors have up their sleeves because we definitely have some great players on ours.”

The Powderpuff game starts on Friday at 4 p.m on the soccer field. Spirit Week will conclude Saturday with the Homecoming dance held at the Melbourne Auditorium from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
