Girls’ tennis team eyes opening meet

The  girls’ tennis team recently finished tryouts and has begun practicing for its first match which will take place in two weeks.

“I think we will have a fun year together because we are a young team and we seem to have a competitive approach which I think will really push us,” sophomore Lydia Howald said. “Since this is technically my first year on the team, I am really optimistic about the season.”

The Lady Wildcats have seven returning and four new players. They also have no seniors and only one junior making the team very young.

“Our team is very solid,” sophomore Sidney Jones said. “Three of the returning players helped us win districts last year. I like having a younger team because I think we are closer and we have plenty of time to improve together.”

The girls will take on Melbourne High on Feb. 16 at the Fee Avenue tennis courts.
