The girls’ swim team finished fifth at its regional meet at Orlando’s Lake Highland Preparatory School on Saturday, bringing an end to its record-breaking season.

Junior Sydney Weatherspoon was the girls top scorer.

“I swam personal bests in both my events, the 50 and 100,” she said. “Although I did not qualify for states because the girls in the other regions were incredibly fast this year, I still have other meets that I can go really fast at like sectionals or senior champs.”

Senior Phoebe Theophelis also contributed to the team’s score with her help on the relays.

“I led the both the 200 and 400 relay, so I had to try to get a lead for the team,” Theophelis said. “I was really trying to keep up, but those prep-school girls are fast. I’m kind of disappointed we did not qualify for states, but we had lots of fun this season.”

After the meet, Theophelis reflected on her high-school swimming career.

“It’s been a lot of fun” she said. “For any swimmer out there I recommend not giving up because everything gets better even if you feel like you are drowning.”
