Four appear all in for All-State

Throughout the past two months select orchestra students have been rehearsing for the All-State that will be held in Tampa in January.

Those musicians include senior Ben Pinfield, violin; sophomore Nathan Foo, oboe; senior Janet Lu, violin and eighth-grader Sarah B, violin. These students made it through a rigorous audition process in September.

“All-State orchestra is basically just all the players in the state who went through an audition process and were selected as the best,” Pinfield said. “Then we rehearse in Tampa for a few days and play at a concert.”

Pinfield has been selected for the honor previously and expressed mixed feelings about attending.

“It’s fun of you’re with friends but other than that it’s just hours of rehearsal,” Pinfield said. “It’s mostly a bunch of rich-kid, try-hards who devote their lives to playing in orchestra.”

Foo has been using his practice for the All-County concert to tune up for All-State.

“Having All-County before All-State benefits me because I will feel more confident and prepared,” he said.
