Fight mars game as ’Cats fall to Viera 1-0

Five players were red-carded and ejected from the game, including West Shore players as the Wildcats fell 1-0 Tuesday. These players will likely be suspended for a few weeks, which is the typical protocol.

Leading up to the fight, the teams played intense, physical game in rainy conditions.

“I saw it was getting really really aggressive because the ref wasn’t calling anything and players were getting angry and becoming over-physical up until the fight,” sophomore Maximus Carl said. “Then I guess two players got too frustrated,”

Sophomore Athan Zaiden said the fight escalated as a result of teammates watching out for each other.

“I’d say they lost their cool at the moment, but I think deep inside, they were just trying to protect their teammates,” Zaiden said. “It just got to their heads and they went a little further than anticipated.”

Following up on the match fight, the administration called a first-of-its-kind meeting to discuss sportsmanship Friday. t

“I think the meeting was in complete response to the fight because is the first time it happened at West Shore,” Carl said. “It’s against the rules to get in physical altercations.”
