Theater program prepares for “9 to 5” performances April 5 and 6

As students prepare for the high-school play “9 to 5,” which will take place April 5 at 1 p.m. and April 6 at 7 p.m., senior Kiley Wallace stressed the importance of tech week.

“The main responsibility of tech week is showing up every day so we can get through the show as smoothly as possible,” Wallace said.

Tech week is the week before a show where thespians practice with the tech, such as lights, sound, props and costumes. Each day, the cast stays after school until 8:30 p.m. preparing for opening night.

“Tech week is stressful, but it is also really fun,” Wallace said. “As long as you keep up with the material needed for the show, you won’t have to worry about the stress that comes with it.”

Throughout the week, the cast must work on memorizing songs and lines.

“It is important to familiarize yourself with the music and choreography on a stage so it doesn’t feel new when you are performing to an audience,” freshman Adelia Torvik said.

Wallace said that tech week can also bring in many memorable moments.

“It is funny to see one of the lead’s wigs fall off to reveal a bald head while doing a serious scene,” Wallace said.
