Band to kick off season with Winter Concert

The band has been preparing for its Winter Concert at Eau Gallie High School’s Performing Arts Center on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

“We have been working on a few pieces since pretty much the beginning of the year,” freshman and Symphonic Band percussionist Kenzie O’Neill said.

Band director Christopher Houze let the bands choose their own songs in an attempt to ensure  the students are happy with the music they are playing.

“The kids in the groups get to pick their favorites,” Houze said. “They have some ownership in what they’re playing. It’s not just a dictatorship.”

O’Neill expressed slight concern regarding the show.

“I am slightly nervous about the concert because I suck at one of the songs,” she said. “But other than that, I’m not too nervous.”
