Actors share thoughts on pre-performance rituals ahead of “9 to 5” on April 5 and 6

As senior Kiley Wallace prepares for the high-school production of “9 to 5” on April 5 at 1 pm. and April 6 at 7 p.m., she reflects on her favorite pre-performance ritual.

“I think the number one pre-show ritual is always a game called ‘Lion Face, Lemon Face,’” Wallace said. “It’s a good way to get everyone together right before the show.”

In this game, someone says “lion face” and everyone makes a face mimicking a lion, and when someone says “lemon face,” everyone makes a face like they just ate something sour. The game keeps going and gets progressively faster.

“It’s a little weird, but it’s always something fun, and the more you do it, the more you get comfortable with it and excited for it,” Wallace said.

Eighth grader Lucie P. said she enjoys the rituals as well.

“I feel like no matter what, something is bound to happen during a performance, but these rituals are a great way to hype people up and shake off nerves,” she said.
