Preparation for midterms varies

Midterms are here and students are preparing. These mid-year exams are worth 20 percent of the semester grade and cover just about everything students have learned since the beginning of the year.

Studying can be tedious and staying up late isn’t recommended, especially for teens, who according to Mayo Clinic, should be getting at least nine hours of sleep a night. However reviewing content for these exams has resulted some late nights.

“I have been staying up until around 12:30 a.m. to study for midterms,” eighth-grader Lucie F. said.

Using the right materials to study is important.

“I have been studying for midterms using study guides, quizlets, practice problems and working with friends,” sophomore Jodie Wiens said.

Despite preparing for midterms, freshmen Kellyn Hoffman expressed worry.

“I’m worried because I have to review everything we’ve done for a year and a half now,” Hoffman said.

Wiens shared some of those same concerns.

“I’m definitely worried about blanking during the exam,” Wiens said. “But reminding myself of how much I have studied makes me feel better and less stressed”

While most studying can be done online or with in-person materials, Frank decided to review with her teachers.

“I have been asking teachers questions to better understand test material,” Frank said. “I feel pretty confident going into midterms about a seven out of 10.”
