Practices begin for JV boys’ basketball

As the JV boys’ basketball team season is opening, freshman David Barbosa is feeling good about the start of practice.

“I’m excited, looking forward to the competition,” Barbosa said. “Just looking forward to the fun time with the team and trying to get some wins out of it.”

Barbosa said the team has flowed together really nicely.

“[The] overall vibe has been good, most of us have played together before,” he said. “ And I feel like our chemistry has been really good.”

Barbosa said he thinks the team needs to work on some things before they face their opponents.

“I think that the team needs to come into the game with confidence and don’t be scared of your opponents,” he said. “Also, we just need to just work on being ready to run because we are going to need a lot of hustle against these teams that are bigger and stronger than us.”

Freshman Drew Newlin said their most recent practices have been technical, with the team practicing six days in a typical week.

“The first week of practice was highly focused on individual skills,” he said. “The second week was split, and was focused on conditioning and other team specific drills.”
