The Slam Poetry Club has plans to host a Slam Off, a competition where students will write and perform a piece of poetry.

The Slam Off is planned for December and hosted by freshman Sophia Fetouh.

“Sophia works really hard to put it together,” freshman Hannah Jones, a member of the Slam Poetry club, said.

This competition is open to all students and the club is hoping for non-members to become interested in poetry through it.

“Even though I don’t like to participate, I enjoy listening,” freshman Kellyn Hoffman said.

Freshman Elena Konicki, a member of the Slam Poetry Club, is planning to enter the Slam Off.

“For the Slam Off, the club is planning to create a poetic response to a poem, which is called a classic,” Konicki said. “For instance, I plan on responding to a poem entitled ‘Mercy’.”

While the specific date for the competition has not been decided, the event will be held in English teacher Kimberly Walling’s room 4-204.

“I think they will do outstanding,” Walling said. “They’ve been working hard and have a true passion for poetry.”

Interested students should attend the meeting in Walling’s room Thursday during Power Hour B.
