Locker room renovations underway

Renovations have begun on the school locker rooms.

“The locker rooms are getting old and dirty,” freshman Lucas Robertson said. “It excites me that we will get a clean new locker room that functions better,”

Assistant Principal Catherine Halbuer said the plan for renovations has existed for a long time. Convincing the district to fund the project, however, took awhile.

“We needed some renovations and locker space so that the athletes can actually put their stuff in the lockers,” Halbuer said.

The guaranteed maximum price for the renovations is $59,000, which includes repainting the walls and adding athlete lockers.

“The normal lockers will remain the same size as the ones used for PE,” Halbuer said.

Halbuer said the locker rooms have been inferior to those at other schools.

“[Athletes] would compare them to other locker rooms that they’ve gone in throughout the district,” Halbuer said. “It might have made them feel that they were not as great as they were.”

In the meantime, construction has inconvenienced some athletes.

“We can no longer have cross-country practice in the morning,” freshman Francis Lewandoski said. “Coach says we can’t go to school stinky.”
