JV girls’ soccer mercy-rules Bayside 8-0

The girls’ JV soccer team defeated Bayside 8-0 in an away game Monday night, scoring all eight goals in the first half so, they didn’t need to play a second half.

Michael Lord, the JV girls’ soccer coach, said he was proud of the girl’s playing and growth.

“I was pleased that all of the girls were able to contribute to the success of the team,” Lord said. “I was pleased that some of the young ones have grown and developed within the framework of the team.”

Seventh-grader Daniela, a wingback, said she thought the game was fun.

“Even though I would not expect to score goals that game or even assist, it felt pretty incredible to finally get my 2nd and 3rd goal for the JV team,” she said.

Lord said practice has led to their success.

“The fitness, the skill work, the tactical work, and the memorization of the formations has led them to where they are today,” Lord said.

Eighth-grader Zoey, a striker, said she also enjoyed the game.

“Bayside was our first game back since Winter Break, and we scored a few minutes into the game so I feel like that kind of reminded us how we played and to just have fun with it,” she said. “As the game went on, we continued working together and scored a few more goals.”

Lord said the teamwork played out but, the girls still have room for improvement.

“I was not pleased with our execution, or the tempo at which we were playing,” Lord said. “I felt as if we were playing too slow, and that resulted in more standing than movement when attacking.”
