JV cheer team prepares for basketball season

The JV cheerleading team will be performing at some of the Varsity basketball games this season to fill in for the varsity cheer team because they are participating in cheer competitions for the first time this year.

“I don’t think that performing at varsity games will change our routines in any way,” JV cheerleader Carina W. said.

The team practices Mondays and Wednesdays and members are expected to attend all practices unless they have an excused absence. This will be a struggle for two of the teammates Carina W. and Hannah Jones who made the competition team. Both JV and the comp team are scheduled to practice on Wednesdays.

“Our team practices twice a week, but with me making competition team, I can only practice once a week on JV,“ Carina said.

Because varsity games start at 7 p.m., the cheerleaders will get home later than when they cheer at JV basketball games. Bailey Kidd said she doesn’t think getting home late will have a big impact on her and doing her homework.

“I will find a way to work around that,” Kidd said.

Carina shared a similar view.

“Getting home later won’t really affect me much since I can still use my time before the game to get my homework done,” she said.

Despite the new schedule, the team will continue to prepare for their first game, where they will cheer as the Lady Wildcats take on Pineapple Cove on Tuesday.

“I think it will be a good experience,” Kidd said.
