Girls’ soccer advances to regional title match
February 17, 2021
Seniors Anna Becker and Ella McMullin each scored a goal and sophomore Bree Ehmer added a third as the Lady Wildcats (16-2-2) defeat Orlando’s Lake Highland Prep (5-7-1) in a Class 3A, Region 3 semifinal match Friday at West Shore. The victory marked the second consecutive shutout for the Lady Wildcats.
Earlier in the week, Ehmer scored twice to lead West Shore past Orlando’s Trinity Prep (7-5-1). Perhaps more impressively, sophomore Madi Uhlmeyer, starting her first game, recorded 11 saves while subbing for an injured Lauren Mannix, who will miss the remainder of postseason play with a hip fracture. Uhlmeyer added five more saves to her resume against Lake Highland Prep.
The Lady Wildcats will travel to Delray Beach on Tuesday to take on American Heritage (12-0-11) for the Class 3A, Region 3 title, with the winner advancing to the state final four.
The match is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $7 and will only be sold at the gate. There will be no online purchase option. In addition, Florida High School Athletics Association rules require that spectators wear masks at all times.
