Girls shut out Space Coast 8-0 to remain unbeaten

The girls’ varsity soccer team had yet another victory classified as “mercy rule,” dominating the Space Coast Vipers 8-0 in an away game Tuesday night. This has been their fourth shutout of the season, only allowing one goal in their five games played so far.

“Overall, we have been playing better than we thought we would have started the season,” Madison Ainbinder (11) said. “With the seniors leaving, it left a void in our system that we played last year, but many of the girls have stepped up and are playing big roles in our teams success.”

Ainbinder also offered insight into why the Lady Wildcats have started stronger than in previous years.

“I think the team is a lot closer off the field than we have been in the past, which has definitely built a strong bond between us,” she said. “The bond among all of us has shown, especially on the field, which has helped us in these dominate victories against these other teams.”

But the team can’t take its foot off the gas quite yet, as it has some tougher competition down the road.

“The girls have been playing phenomenal so far to start the season,” Courtney Carter (12) said. “Everyone has been contributing and putting in a lot of effort, which has allowed for our success. However, we can’t get comfortable yet because it’s only going to get harder from here. Thursday is a big game for us, so need to keep this same intensity and focus that we have had so far so we can go out and extend our streak.”

The girls travel to Viera to take on the Hawks on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in hopes to keep their undefeated streak alive.
