Boys JV basketball won its first game of the season on Jan. 27, defeating Space Coast 49-47 and ending the team’s losing streak of seven games.
“Our team needs to work on turnovers,” guard and sophomore Shoiab Ahmed said. “We just can’t handle the pressure. The ball gets pressured and we just throw bad passes. We play good in practice, but as soon as we step on the court, we aren’t civilized in basketball.”
Ahmed said there is still hope to turn their record to three wins and seven losses next week.
“I feel like we can have a chance, as long as we put our minds towards it,” he said. “I’ve seen signs of improvement of how we play; we’re turning the ball over less, and other stuff like that.”
Freshman Maddox Casler, a post player on the team, expressed the same feelings.
“Sometimes, we just don’t work as a team,” Casler said. “We need to work on our bonding and teamwork. If we do that, next week’s games are very winnable.”
Casler also talked about how the team raises its spirits.
“We dance in the locker room sometimes, just to hype each other up,” he said. “I just like being in a light and energetic mood. It makes the game feel better.”
This week, the team will face Odyssey Charter School and Edgewood Jr/Sr High School.
