Varsity boys hang tough with MontVerde
December 6, 2016
Senior Sam Leighton scored one goal on a free kick sent in by his brother, sophomore Ian Leighton, and sophmore Chase Hester scored another off a corner, but the boys’ varsity soccer team lost 3-2 to Montverde Academy in a home game Monday night. MontVerde Academy is ranked as one of the best soccer teams in the country, so coming close to drawing the game or even winning the game proved to be an accomplishment, according to Hester.
“I think we performed very well,” he said. “We have never gotten so close to winning a game against Montverde, yet even score a goal. I think if we had better finishing, we could of possibly won the game or drew.”
Ian Leighton pointed to another the reason for the loss.
“I think that we lacked having good possession while playing MontVerde,” he said. “Montverde had dominated in possession throughout the game but they couldn’t make any good plays, and we played aggressive enough to eventually score two goals.”
