The academic team celebrates is second-place finish.

Junior Melinda Silaghi is going to Disney World as part of the Brevard All-Star Academic team which will compete with other Division 1 schools from throughout the state at the end of April.

Despite the loss of several members to graduation, the West Shore academic team took second in the regular season and second place at the district tournament and Silaghi advanced to the next level of competition.

“It is always difficult to lose seniors,” academic team sponsor Angela Feldbush said. “Especially the top players who have been to state, but including younger members is an ongoing process and will leave us with stronger players who have more experience in the future.  We are trying to keep a good balance of players at all grade levels to make sure the team will be competitive for many years.”

Feldbush, who has been coaching the academic team for four years, said its strong suit is consistency.

“I have been running academic teams almost as long as I have been teaching.  I have sponsored the West Shore team since I came back four years ago,” Feldbush said.  “We have had some outstanding players in that time and have sent at least one player on to the state team every year. ”

The academic team is always looking for new members.

“Academic team is a challenging competition, but also a lot of fun,” Feldbush said.  “It is a great chance to work together as a team and put all the information you have been learning to use.”

This year academic team’s Melinda Silaghi is going to be on the Brevard All-Star Team and will be at Disney’s Grand Floridian competing against other division one schools from all over the state.
