A group of Brevard County Latin students will be taking a non-school sponsored educational tour to Italy this June. This 10-day trip will include five days in Rome and two in the Sorrento region. Sightseeing tours will  include Rome, the Vatican, Roman Catacombs, Capri, Pompeii and Paestum, all led by an expert licensed local tour guide. Students will be chaperoned by West Shore Latin teacher Tim O’Flaherty and other volunteers.

“Traveling is a key component to studying even if you are going into or are already in a STEM degree,” O’Flaherty said. “Most of these sites are places that people will not see if not on a guided tour. The places that we are going to see are about all of ancient Rome’s culture. Staying in the city is the most ideal, and you will also see some of Rome’s modern culture too.”

Throughout the tour, the group leaders will provide information about the various sights. 

“It will be an opportunity to learn more about Rome outside of school,” freshman Justin Foster said. “I used some of my college funds to pay for this trip, so I am to use this opportunity to earn college credits by completing an academic project. This will be my first time traveling out of the continent.”

For most students this will be a life-changing experience and a step toward independence.

“This will be a great educational experience while also experiencing it with friends,” freshman Bailey Wong said.
