Girls optimistic as season ends
October 19, 2016
The girls’ golf team placed fifth out of five teams at the Class 2A District Golf Tournament at Rockledge Country Club on Thursday. Eighth-grader Courtnee R. had the team’s lowest score of 137 .
Districts were pushed back from Oct. 10 because all school events were canceled due to Hurricane Matthew.
“The hurricane didn’t have much effect on the course, other than a few palm fronds, which didn’t get in our way at all,” freshman Campbell Crews said.
Despite the loss, Courtnee maintained a positive outlook.
“I was really close to going onto regionals,” she said. “If I had just concentrated a little more and saved some more strokes around the green, I think I would’ve moved on. The highest score that went through was a 131 by a girl from Edgewood. She was older than me though, so next year I aim to beat her and advance to regionals.”
