The first issue of the "Roar" news magazine was distributed to fourth period classes on Oct. 29. If you didn't receive a copy and would like one, stop by Mrs. Foster's room 3-104.

Three brothers, freshman Brodie Simmons and seventh graders Easton and Reed, wear their dad's fire department gear for "hometown hero" day during spirit week on Sept. 25. "My dad is a fireman and I wanted to show my appreciation towards all that he and his team do," Simmons said.

Junior Adam Elbouchti signs up to donate blood through OneBlood outside the cafeteria on Oct. 2. "I'm donating blood mainly for the free food," Elbouchti said. "And to save lives I guess."

Senior Evy Nigh pops the question asking senior Addyson Leathers to be her homecoming date on Sept. 20. "I was so excited that it was about Fall Out Boy, something that is so personal for me," Addyson said. "Obviously I said yes!"

Eighth-graders Anil Mahindra and Daniel Sorgenfrei learn how to do the Merengue dance in Spanish teacher Mireya Ramos' classroom on Sept. 13. "Merengue highlights the Dominican culture," Ramos said. "Every Friday we cover a different dance to learn about a different culture."

The American flag flies at half mast outside of the school on Sept. 11 in honor of Patriot Day. Students participated in a moment of silence during the morning announcements honoring the many lives lost 23 years ago today.

"It's important to utilize all of our space to enhance our environment and provide repeated exposure for all that we do in the media programs at West Shore," Journalism Adviser Mrs. Foster said.

Senior Nate Wittemann paints his own twist on the cover art of Childish Gambino's "STN MTN / Kauai" album on his parking spot in the auditorium parking lot on Aug. 17. "I thought it would be a good representation of who I am, what music I listen to, and how I'm kind of looking into this senior year," Nate said.

A group of 7th graders stop for an interview during the annual "Wildcats On the Prowl" scavenger hunt. “Well, I’m out numbered,” Resource Officer Butler said. “I did not realize we had so many seventh graders until today.”

Singer/songwriter Zach Bryan performs "Oak Island" at Raymond James Stadium during his "Quittin' Time" tour on Aug. 14. "I was ecstatic as soon as I heard the first guitar note," senior Addyson Leathers said. "'Oak Island' was definitely my favorite song he played because it's my favorite song off the new album."

Principal Burt Clark finishes up paperwork in his office during his first official day at West Shore on Aug. 12. "I've felt nothing but excitement for the past two months looking forward to this year," Clark said. "My office is just where I sign papers and send emails, I prefer to be outside in the classrooms, hallways, and at lunch."

"Having some interaction with kids, you know, I think it keeps me young," Principal Rick Fleming said. "That's where my heart has always been."

Mr. Fleming dresses up as "Gru" from the movie "Despicable Me" as a part of senior prank day on April 18. "I didn't know what a Gru was before this," Fleming said. "I thought it was the little guy from The Mandalorian!"

The Melbourne Fire Department recognized coach and custodian Derrick Hamilton on April 16 with the Lifesaving Citizen Award during lunch. "I would just react for anyone," Hamilton said. "My love for children -- that's what it comes down to. [I am] where I am supposed to be."

The Brevard Public Schools maintenance team works to repair an issue that caused West Shore to lose water during 2nd period on Feb. 26. "Not being able to use the water fountains made it a little difficult especially for PE because the weather is warmer outside," PE coach Jenny Pazderak said.

WCTZ's very own Addy Carroll (12) films a segment of her senior project video, aimed to help incoming seventh graders coming into the Wildcat Nation. "I'm hoping to help [7th graders] coming to West Shore acclimate easier and not be as scared," Addy said.

Boys' varsity soccer travels to Florida Atlantic University to play in the 3A regional semifinal. "I think we played decent overall," center back Adrian Mahindra (11) said. "After the travel I think everyone was a bit fatigued and we didn’t play to our full potential."

Sophomores Drew Newlin and Jack Grimison film their sports segment "Pardon the Interruption" on Feb. 1. "I just love crushing Drew in our debates every time we film," Grimison said. "I don't think he’s won a single debate since we started filming."

Former Wildcat and Academy Award nominee Michael Grover returns to visit his former high school teachers. "It's surreal to be back," Grover said. "We've had some exciting career wise this past year and it's fun to come back to where it all started."

Hanging his flag up in the media center Jan. 24, senior Kian Nezamoddini-Kachouie proudly displays his acceptance to the University of Colorado Boulder. “It’s not my first choice, but the program for the major I want to go into is better than any of the Florida colleges I applied to,” he said. “It’s relieving to know that I have a valid reason to go out-of-state.”
