Volleyball wins 3 in preseason tourney

Senior Tess Sheets led the way with 17 kills over the course of four, one-set matches and sophomore Casey Schauman added 13 assists to lead the Lady Wildcats’ volleyball team to a 3-1 overall record in a preseason tournament Thursday.

“This jamboree provided good insight into how are team will perform this year,” Sheets said. “It showed our strengths and weaknesses and what we need to work on going into the season.”

Senior Amanda Farthing said the tournament was a good chance to see how the team’s future looks.

“It was a good oppurtunity for everyone to get some playing time,” Farthing said. “It allowed the young players to adjust to the pace and intensity of a varsity match.”

The tournament took place in St. Cloud, consisted of a series of four, one-set matches and featured Osceola High School, St. Cloud High School, Gateway High School, Poinciana High School, Celebration High School and West Shore.

The Lady Wildcats beat Gateway, Osceola and Celebration, but were bested by St. Cloud in their third game of the day.

The Lady Wildcats’ regular season opens Monday night against the Melbourne High School Lady Bulldogs in the West Shore Gymnasium with varsity play starting at 7 p.m.
