Melbourne
The varsity volleyball team returned home to face Melbourne on Friday, Aug. 29, looking to secure their first victory against the Bulldogs in program history.
The Wildcats opened the match with an electric start, closing out the first set 25-22. They carried that energy into the second set, pulling off a tight 26-24 win to go up 2-0.
Melbourne stormed back in the third set, taking control early and handing West Shore a 25-13 loss.
Regrouping in the fourth set, the Wildcats battled point for point before sealing the match with a 25-23 victory.
The 3-1 win extended West Shore’s record to 3-1 on the season and marked their third straight sweep or near-sweep since dropping the opener to Viera.
Odyssey Charter
The Wildcats got straight back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 2, on the road against Odyssey Charter, their first conference match.
Just like the Melbourne game, the Wildcats started the first set with high energy, winning 25-12.
The second set was pure domination from the Cats, as juniors Reagan Hill and Erynn Moffett racked up countless kills, leading them to a 25-6 win.
The Titans came back in the third set, making a valiant effort; however they couldn’t close it out, and the Wildcats took the set 25-20.
Hill and Moffett combined for 18 kills, which propelled the Cats to their third sweep of the year, pushing their record to 4-1.
The varsity volleyball team will be back home on Friday, Sept. 5, to face 3-3 Titusville. The theme for this game will be whiteout. Come out and support your fellow wildcats in the West Shore gym at 7:15 p.m.
