Third-quarter lapse dooms girls’ hoops

With leading scorer Lydia Kline hampered by a knee injury, the Lady Wildcats were tripped up by the Cocoa Tigers 39-29 Wednesday. Gillian Foster and Victoria D’Esposito led the Wildcats with 8 points each. While Kline contributed three steals, she also tallied only three points.

“It wasn’t our best game,” Kline said. “We needed to work harder to make up that deficit.”

The Lady Wildcats played with the Tigers in the first half, but fell behind in the third quarter.

“We need to focus more at halftime,” sophomore forward Nora McSorely said. “We played really well until our third-quarter collapse.”

With Kline “lacking all movement in her knee” she was unable to contribute her usual points, and the team shot 57 percent from the free-throw line.

The girls head back to the court Tuesday at Edgewood at 7 p.m.
