Swimmers ready for district challenge

The boys’ and girls’ swim teams will head into district competition at Indian River State College in Vero on Saturday.

The swimmers must qualify during a morning session in order to compete in a night session.

The girls finished the regular season undefeated, breaking all school records in the process. While neither the boys nor the girls have won the district competition before, senior Nikki Gregory expressed optimism.

“I am so proud of our girls team for having an undefeated season,” she said. “Winning districts would be the perfect ending to an amazing year. I could not have asked for a better ending after six years of being on the team.”

Head Coach Mike Rochelle shares similar sentiments.

“This year will be a great opportunity for the team,” he said. “The girls have had an amazing year. They’re the only undefeated girls team in the county, and they have a very good chance of winning districts if they swim hard enough.

“With enough effort, the boys have a good chance to place high as well,” Rochelle said. “They finished with a winning record of six wins to four losses.”

The top swimmers from the event will move on to regional competition.
