Junior Kristina Youngson hopes to stay healthy through the end of the season.

With the district meet scheduled for Wednesday at Indian River State College, the 7-1 girls’ swim team looks to make good on a promise it made to itself at the beginning of the season.

“Our goals have been the same every year: continued improvement and hard work,” Coach Don Gornto said. “The girls’ team has placed second at the district meet the last three years. We want to get first this year and get a banner in the gym.”

Individuals on the swim team have set personal objectives.

“[My goal] was to not get injured during swim season,” junior Kristina Youngson said. “It was [my hope] to achieve that because I am a klutz and very injury prone.”

The Lady Wildcats have faced some difficulties with having a smaller group of seniors to lead the team.

“[But] the leadership is still there,” Gornto said. “Kayla Stevens and Emily Dubec-Hunter have been great captains this year with both having very different leadership styles.”
