The girls varsity soccer team dominated its Senior Night game, winning 6-0 against Rockledge on Dec. 13. But for the seniors, the night was more than just a celebration—it was a chance to reflect on years of hard work, friendships and memories made on the field.
“Senior Night kind of symbolizes leaving the sport that I’ve done for so long,” senior Stefania Raphaelli said. “It’s a little sad because it’s been a big part of my life, but it’s also exciting because I’m moving on to new things.”
Raphaelli, along with fellow seniors Allison Gunnel and Rebecca Lorigan, has been a part of the varsity team for years. They have mentored younger players and helped lead the team with their skills and positive attitudes.
“They’re really good captains,” junior Skyler Clark said. “Stef is more tough and serious sometimes, but Allison and Rebecca are tough while being really kind. They work well together.”
The players have shared moments beyond the field, like Halloween practices, team dinners and game days.
“My relationship with Allison and Rebecca has grown a lot over the years,” Raphaelli said. “We’re best friends outside of soccer, but playing together has made our bond even stronger. It’s been great to share that connection.”
Clark, who has played alongside the seniors for several seasons, said they havehelped her grow as a player.
“It’s inspiring to play with them because I can see how hard they work,” she said. “Stef always gives me tips on the field and helps me out—it’s been amazing having her there.”
Clark said her favorite memory of the seniors was their practice on Halloween.
“They dressed up as the Lorax, did a photoshoot, and it was just so funny,” Clark said. “They bring a lot of fun to the team.”
As the seniors prepare to leave West Shore soccer, they hope to leave behind a positive impact on the team.
“I hope the team remembers to have fun,” Raphaelli said. “Soccer is supposed to be something you enjoy, and it’s okay to laugh and have a good time, even when things get hard.”
