Middle school girls improve to 6-0
Averaging an unprecedented 30% accuracy from behind the 3-point arc on the season, the middle school girls’ basketball team came back to beat the Cocoa Tigers 38-33 on Tuesday night. The team battled through its first halftime-deficit of the season in securing the victory.
“I am very proud of the leadership our 8th grade players have been displaying and of the enthusiasm the 7th grade players bring to every practice and game,” Coach George Derr said. “Every returning player from last year’s team is putting up better numbers this season – most importantly the team has improved the field goal and free throw percentages from last season.”
On the defensive end, the team held Cocoa from extending their lead in the second half and led the team to its comeback.
“All of our players take great pride in their defense. This has kept us in every game this season and put pressure on our opponents to play mistake-free basketball,” Derr said. “We have excellent hands and take advantage of our ability to get the ball up the court rapidly following a steal or rebound.”
The last home game of the regular season will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. against Space Coast.
