Middle-school girls upend Cocoa 35-24
September 7, 2016
Kate L. scored 8 points to lead the middle-school girls’ basketball team past Cocoa 35-24 in an away game Tuesday night. A total of nine West Shore girls scored in the game.
“Cocoa has this strategy where they have their seventh-graders in one quarter and their eighth-graders in another,” junior Taylor Smith, the manager of the team, said. “This leads to an unbalanced team. We were able to match this up and at the end of the day, our girls just performed better overall which is why we got the win.”
Coach Derrick Hamilton has noticed the high work-ethic his team has been exhibiting as of late.
“What I like about this team is that they battle,” Coach Derrick Hamilton said. “The Cocoa girls were all up on them and they turned the tables and took it to them.”
The team next plays at home against Cocoa Beach on Thursday at 5 p.m.
