Lady Wildcats top Astronaut in four sets

Behind a team leading 17 assists from sophomore Casey Schauman, the Lady Wildcats volleyball team knocked off the Astronaut War Eagles in four sets, in a tune-up district match Wednesday night.

“Having back to back home games allows us to carry the momentum from tonights’ game into tomorrows,” senior Amanda Farthing said. “Edgewood is a huge rival, and it’s good to see what we need to focus on going into tomorrow’s big game”

Farthing led the team with eight kills, and senior Aalekhya Tenali  turned in 14 digs.

Senior Captain Tess Sheets also contributed 14 assists, and she knows how important it was to determine and fix errors going forward, both for tonight’s game and the rest of the season.

“This game taught us that we need to improve on our defense,” Sheets said. “The ability to have a game to clean up our issues right before an important rivalry game is really beneficial.”

The Lady Wildcats take on the Edgewood Indians in their Second Annual “Fill The Gym Night” tonight. Fans can enter players’ names into a jar upon entry into the game. The players are competing for the most entries, with the winner receiving a $50 prize.

The JV game starts at 5:30 p.m. and varsity play begins at 7 p.m.
