Boys trying out for the varsity and junior varsity basketball teams hope their on-the-court tricks will result in the treat of making the team.
Tryouts will be held Monday from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Anyone who makes the team will be asked to stay until 6:15 p.m. for a informational meeting. Students wanting to tryout for the team must bring their completed physical and consent forms.
“This year, we will be taking 22 players for the program. We are going to be making some changes to how we run practice,” Assistant Coach Robert Salazar said. “We will be running joint practices where the junior varsity and varsity teams practice together. We decided to change things up so our returning players will develop better leadership skills, and the younger players will gain more experience.”
Some students have considered wearing costumes to tryouts in the spirit of Halloween.
“I personally think it is ridiculous,” Head Coach Tony Riopelle said. “If I saw Batman dribbling down the court, I would feel as if we were all spitting on the grave of the great Dr. James Naismith, the founder of basketball.”
