Sophomore Lila Iwanowski won the online vote for last week’s Community Credit Union’s Athlete of the Week, which is published in “Florida Today.” She was nominated after shooting a 34 at Crane Creek last Wednesday.

“There really wasn’t anything different when I shot the 34 at Crane Creek,” Iwanowski said. “I had better green in regulations and I was compressing the ball well.”

Iwanowski said she was staying focused and did not pay attention to her score until she finished her round.

“I actually didn’t realize I shot a 34 when I ended the round, but when I did I was super-excited,” she said. “I was also extremely happy to be nominated Athlete of the Week. It was my second year in a row, so it was honestly an honor  to be nominated again.”

Coach Jenny Pazderak praised her top player.

“Lila is a competitor and a team player,” Pazderak said. “She is dedicated to making herself better every day. She strives to perfect her game and help her teammates get better as well. Lila is always willing to assist her teammates and shows leadership by encouraging those around her. She is such a pleasure to coach.”

Senior golfer Kathe Schrader said Iwanowski motivates those around her.

“Lila always has a positive attitude,” Schrader said. “She’s the No. 1 player so she always helps out with keeping the score low.”

Pazderak took a similar opinion when talking about Iwanowski’s impact.

“Lila’s knowledge of the game has impacted the season because she strives to be the best player she can be,” Pazderak said. “Her drive to want to work on her game also impacts her teammates to want to work hard and become better.”
