Girl’s dominate in season-opener

Maci Pekmezian (12) scored six goals, Ella McMullin (11) scored two and Jonelle Plahuta (12) and Bree Ehmer  (9) added one apiece as the girls’ varsity soccer team had a strong start to the season, dominating Eau Gallie 10-0 Thursday night.

“This year we are playing a slightly different formation which helps us capitalize with the types of players we have on the team,” she said. “Many of our girls can play long ball, so we’ve been focusing on getting numbers forward to be able to capitalize on the defense. The long balls have allowed us to easily beat the defense and score more goals.”

Although sick, Madison Ainbinder (11) supported her team from the bench.

“[Eau Gallie] isn’t the greatest competition we face this year, and the girls capitalized on the opportunity, doing a great job of moving the ball around,” she said. “Their ball movement allowed for better distribution, leading to them scoring so many goals tonight.”

Hatter said the team has much to work on going forward.

“We just need to overall grow as a team and learn how everyone plays so that we can play more as a unit instead of individuals coming from different clubs,” she said.

The girls will next take on Heritage at home Monday at 7 p.m.
