With  few games left on the schedule, the 8-11 girls’ varsity basketball team is going into playoff mode. The Lady Wildcats play their final two regular-season games against Astronaut and tonight and John Carroll on Friday. District play will open Feb. 4 at Melbourne Central Catholic.

In its most recent game, the team beat Edgewood 42-10, with a team-high 14 points from lone senior and team captain Pooja Shah on Senior Night.

“There is a lot of weight on my shoulders being the only senior on the team,” Shah said. “I want to help them work better as a team and strengthen our offense so we can come into districts and be in a good position to win.”

Ana Gent (10), the team’s leading rebounder, averages 7.6 rebounds per game. She said her ability to rebound and play defense will help the team succeed.

“I will do whatever it takes to help my team win districts, whether that’s grabbing a crucial rebound or scoring that crucial basket,” Gent said. “This is the most talented team I’ve played on since I’ve been at West Shore. If we stick to our style of basketball, we have a real shot at winning.”
