Girls’ golf qualifies for regionals

The girls’ golf team placed third at Districts on Tuesday and qualified for regional play. The districts tournament was hosted by Cocoa Beach High School at the Cocoa Beach Country Club, and only nine holes could be played rather than the standard 18 due to weather concerns. Out of nine teams, Merritt Island placed first, Cocoa Beach placed second and West Shore placed third.

“I somewhat felt cheated because we only got to play nine since it was supposed to rain,” team captain Sara Chinoy said. “However, it turned out to be a fun day, and our team shot a low for the season and placed third against some great teams.”

Chinoy, a senior, scored a 40 and placed fourth overall as an individual and freshman Taylor Belinchak scored a 38 and to claim second place. Senior Danielle Miller scored a 46, junior Brittany Cho scored a 50, and freshman Taylor Erwin scored a 49. The team will play at Suntree Country Club on Oct. 24 at 10:30 a.m.
