Freshman dances her way to second place

Freshmen Raven Morgan shook the ground at her dance competition during the weekend, winning second place in her division for lyrical partner dance.

“I did a routine with Madisyn M. who goes to Johnson, and it was a really good experience,” Morgan said.” I have never competed, so I was nervous for the performance. I had been practicing this dance for a while. I was glad to know my hard work paid off.

The dance competition, called Shake the Ground was held at Orlando Ocoee High School and dancers from throughout Florida attended.

I didn’t think I was going to get second place. but I wasn’t disappointed I did,” she said. “It’s nice to win.”

Eighth-grader Madisyn M. said she and Morgan worked well together at the competition.

“I have never done a dance with Raven before, but I had such a great time dancing with her at this competition, Madisyn said. ”I like having her as her a partner because I can trust her.”

Morgan is a member of the Broadway Bound dance studio which holds an annual recital.

“I usually do group dances for the end-year performance, so [Shake the Ground] was a nice way for me to get out of my comfort zone,” she said.

Morgan has been dancing for 10 years, has been doing lyrical for five and doesn’t plan to stop anytime soon.

“I started out with ballet for like one year but I feel like everyone tries that,” she said. “I didn’t stick with it, but it did show me my love for dance.”
