The boys’ junior varsity basketball team has had a jam-packed schedule the week before Thanksgiving break, with three games against Bayside, Heritage and Cocoa Beach High School on Monday, Tuesday and Friday respectively. The coach of the team is Kyle McCoy, a recent addition to the boys’ basketball coaching staff, and is working with an almost completely new JV team with only four returning players out of the fourteen from last year.
The team has lost three of its games.
“What I think we could have done better was pass the ball more and break the full-court pressure on our ball handlers since we had around twenty turnovers,” sophomore player Shoaib Ahmed said.
To address these challenges, the team has incorporated multiple drills and explanations in its practices to overcome full-court pressure.
“In future games, I would like to see no turnovers in press fundamentals and break it with passing instead of dribbling,” McCoy said.
Even though the team has had a rocky start to its season, McCoy said he believes the players have control over the rest of their season.
“We have guys that don’t give up and I don’t think they shut down either, but they’re young so I believe that the building blocks I set in place for them will help them in the future,” McCoy said.
