Dance team heads to regionals

The Purrfections dance team is scheduled to compete at the Florida Universal Dance Association Regionals at Sanford’s Seminole High School on Monday.

“The team has invested a lot of time into practice for this competition,” Coach April Shaw said. “Varsity has been preparing since this summer, and all the girls have really worked their hardest to get to where they are today. I know in the end all of their dedication will pay off.”

All three teams — middle school, junior varsity and varsity — will be competing against other dance teams across Florida from towns including Miami, Sanford, Melbourne and Oviedo.

“I am excited to see all of the dances and the different techniques that other teams have been practicing,” JV dance member Ana Rosal said. “It is really cool to see what new things teams have come up with every year.”

The varsity team will be competing in the small varsity Jazz and the varsity Pom divisions. The junior varsity and middle school teams will also be competing in their respected pom divisions.

“I think that we will pretty good at regionals,” Rosal said, “There are some tough teams but if we practice and are sharp enough then we have a pretty good chance to beat them.”

This is the second year that the Purrfections will be attending the competition.

“The girls did extremely well last year and it would be great if we can repeat that again this year,” Shaw said. “As long as everyone does what they are suppose to, I believe all three teams have a chance to place even higher than last year.”
