Cross country varsity rosters set

Seven was the number but luck had little to do with it as the boys’ and girls’ cross country runners competed in the Preseason Jamboree. The race, held at Wickham Park on Sept. 3, determined the top seven finishers who would made the varsity cut.
As a result, the girls’ team comprises Sarah Day, Kate Crowley, Lexie Krehbiel, Wendy Eldredge, Lesley McNamera, Megan Muir and Lauren Dietl, while the boys’ squad will be made up of Jacob Smithe, Luke Redito,Gregory Topp, Randy Adams, Adam Kline, Ian Chan and Christian Hayes.

“I felt like I did as well as I could have in the race,” Adams said. “There might have been a little left in me, but I will make sure to use up all of my energy in the upcoming race. When I heard the course was a little longer, that gave me some confidence to know that there will be improving from here. Overall, as a team I think the guys were pretty tight in time, and I think our team looks promising for the season. The varsity spots were filled pretty much as expected except a few new seventh-graders who managed to make the team.”

Despite the fact that a longer-than-usual course added almost a minute to each runner’s time, the coaches still were able to see where their teams stand as of now and determine if their runners were on pace by the closeness to their prior competitors.

“I think we have really strong first three or four first girls because they’re the ones that really trained over the summer,” varsity captain Kate Crowley said. “But we also have a few girls who started with almost no experience that seem like they might have a lot of potential once they get in better shape.”
