Cocoa Beach upends volleyball team

Senior Tess Sheets picked up nine kills and three aces, but it was not enough for the varsity volleyball team to hold off the Cocoa Beach Minutemen, who after losing the first set, won the next three — and the match.

“The outcome of the game was very disappointing,” Sheets said. “I think that we played well, but we weren’t able to close the deal.”

After dominating the first set 25-9, the Lady Wildcats were unable to overcome the Minutemen onslaught, falling 25-23, 25-7, 25-23.

Sophomore Casey Schaumann led with 12 assists but the effort was diminished by the Minutemen.

“The first game, I thought we had the win, but in volleyball you can’t always predict the outcome of the game,” Schauman said. “Im thankful for all of the people who showed up and supported us though even though we couldn’t live up to their expectations.”

The volleyball team is preparing for itssecond annual Fill the Gym night on next  Thursday’s  home game against Edgewood where each volleyball player tries and brings the largest number of fans to the game. The team is hoping for a large outcome similar to last year’s.

“Last year everyone seemed like they had fun at the game and the school support helped us grab the win,” Schauman said. “I hope the turn out is as great as it was last year.”

Fill the Gym night will open  with the JV game starting at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity game starting at 7 p.m.
