Junior forward Brandon Sepulveda scored the only goal to lead the boys’ varsity soccer team past Edgewood 1-0 Friday, securing the 8-2A district championship.

Despite the victory, sophomore defender Nick Burgess wasn’t satisfied.

“I feel that the team didn’t play as well as we should have,” he said. “Edgewood pressed us throughout the whole game which made it difficult for us to play the style of game that we want to play. To improve we have scouting reports from some secret sources that give us reports on lake highland prep. Along with scouting, we have yoga during this week that will stretch and prepare us for a tough game.”

The Wildcats next play host to Lake Highland Prep in a regional quarterfinal matchup beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday. Senior Brad Mooney says the team is ready to go.

“It feels good to finally win districts after losing to [Melbourne Central Catholic] last year,” he said. “But I feel that we could have had a better record if we had not had careless mistakes on the ball. The team is pumped for Regionals because we want to beat Bishop Moore the team that we lost to last year and go farther.”
