Boys’ soccer ties Vero Beach 3-3

Despite both teams unintentionally scoring on their own goal and a goal each from seniors James Bocinsky and captain Tyler Moscrip, the boys’ soccer team could not pull away from the Vero Beach Indians with a resulting score of 3-3.

“It was nice to see the character and heart we had in the second half,” Moscrip said. ” We finally started to break them and started to get more chances to score.”

After keeper Allan Joyner came out of the goal to block a shot, junior David Almeida ran behind the keeper in attempt to clear the ball if it passed Joyner. After the opposing player passed Joyner and took a shot, Almeida accidentally kicked the ball into the net after it deflected off his shin.

“At half time our coaches talked to us about everyone stepping up and finishing out the game with the heart that we had last year,” senior Liam Wixted said. “Everyone did what they were supposed to do and the intensity increased so we were able to overcome that accident and tie the game.”

The team plays at Treasure Coast in Port St. Lucie Monday with J.V. starting at 5:30 p.m. and varsity starting at 7 p.m.

“We seem to have a problem of always starting out slow,” Moscrip said. “So we need to work playing fluidly and I think we will be fine.”
