Boys’ soccer shuts out Satellite 5-0

Seniors Ian Leighton and Cameron Yeutter each scored two goals and junior John Eaton added one to lead the boys’ varsity soccer team past Satellite High School 5-0 Wednesday afternoon.

The boys began their lead early, finishing the first half at 2-0.

“We played around Satellite [High School] and had them chasing the whole first half,” said junior goalkeeper Cooper Stein. “By the second half, they were all tired. That’s when we go at teams and attack and look to score goals.”

Junior defender Scott Quigley also pointed to the team’s stamina.

“They were definitely less fit than our team and got tired a lot easier,” he said. “We didn’t make as many [substitutes] in the second half which allowed us to get our rhythm in the game.”

The boys got back on track after tying Heritage High School — a team they “would normally beat” — 1-1 on Tuesday night to open the season.

“I think a lot of us were nervous for the first game of the season,” Stein said. “Added to the fact that I think a lot of [us] also underestimated how good Heritage actually was. I think today we came out with a different mindset of not wanting to lose to Satellite for the second year.”

The Wildcats’ next game will take place at Palm Bay High School next Tuesday at 7 p.m.
