Boys’ soccer shuts out Indians

With one goal each, senior and captain Tyler Moscrip, senior Liam Wixted and junior Jimmy Murren led the boys’ soccer team to a long-awaited 3-0 victory over Edgewood on Thursday night. The team had tied four of its last five games and is glad to be back in its groove, according to Murren.

“We found a weak spot and Robert Madden made a great run, sent in the ball, and I just shot it into the corner,” Murren said. “It brought us out of our slump, and it was an overall team effort. It was a great motivator because it gave us that stepping stone we needed and now put us back on top of our district.”

The Wildcats now look to carry the momentum into their Saturday rematch with the Berkeley Prep Buccaneers. The Wildcats beat the Buccaneers 3-2 in double overtime in last February’s Class 2A state championship.

“It’s a game we’re all looking forward to,”  Moscrip said. “Both teams have lost quite a few players, so it should be interesting to see how it all plays out. There will definitely be a lot of emotions flying around though. It gives us a chance to prove we can still hang with the best.”

The boys will play the Buccaneers at 1 p.m. following the girls game at 11 a.m.
