Boys fall to Scorps; regionals up next

The road to repeating as state champion took a slight detour Friday when Satellite High shocked the Wildcats 1-0 to claim the Class 2A, District 7 tournament championship. The loss sends West Shore (12-3-4) on the road to Orlando’s Bishop Moore on Wednesday in a rematch of last year’s quarterfinal game. Had West Shore won Friday’s game, it would have hosted the quarterfinal match.

“Satellite definitely just packed in their defense,” senior Liam Wixted said. “They put 10 players in the box and kept a fast forward up top. They were just really disiplined and we didn’t adjust well to their mainly defensive game.”

The single goal scored was from a penalty kick by the Scorpions in the second half. Junior Jimmy Murren scored with around eight minutes left but the officials called the goal offsides.

“We just couldn’t score,”  captain Tyler Moscrip said. “We’ve always had issues sending the ball from the midfielders up to the goal. We are going to watch the tape of the game and see where we failed and what we can do better for Wednesday night.”

Wednesday’s game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m
