Boys’ basketball tryouts set for Nov. 5

The boys’ varsity basketball season is right around the corner and the players are conditioning and improving on their game in order to prepare.

The boys have been conditioning throughout September and October. As tryouts are approaching on Nov. 5 and many are looking for a spot on the team, the past two open-gym sessions each consisted of two hours of scrimmaging, so players can showcase how they’ve improved during the offseason.

“I work out every day and eat healthy, along with getting shots up as much as possible,” returning varsity player Scott Maggio (12) said. “My expectations and goals are 20 points per game and to make it to districts.”

After facing many injuries last year, the team is working to get in shape and stay as healthy as possible. They played in a few tournaments during the summer to work on team chemistry.

“This offseason I’ve worked harder than I ever have,” Bennett Kent (11) said. “It’s more than just a season for me, junior year is when all of the colleges look at you. I’m very confident in the team. We showed a lot of potential this summer.”

The team’s opening game is scheduled for Nov. 25 against Rockledge. Until then, players will be fighting to get a spot on the varsity team and once the team is full they will be practicing almost every day until their first game.
